Bachata singer Romeo Santos will have a role in the movie adaptation of the “Angry Birds” videogame, expected to reach theaters in July 2016, according to the artist’s agent.

This would be the second film appearance for the “Bachata King,” after his role as Cristian Marambio in “Fast and Furious 7,” set to debut in April 2015.

Rovio, the Finnish company behind “Angry Birds,” has been working since 2011 on a film adaptation and has hired David Maisel, former president of the Marvel studios and responsible for titles such as “Iron Man,” to shepherd the project.

Maisel will co-produce the movie with John Cohen (“Despicable Me,” 2010) under the Rovio Entertainment label and Sony will handle distribution.

Since it first appeared on the market in 2009, “Angry Birds” has racked up more than 1.7 billion downloads.

In the game, players use a slingshot to launch wingless birds at pigs ensconced within assorted structures with the intent to kill the pigs that have stolen the birds’ eggs. EFE
